What Is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is a safe and non-invasive procedure that’s been helping men and women across San Diego lose up to 25% of the fat stored in areas like the hips, stomach, and thighs. Developed by scientists from Harvard and the Massachusetts General Hospital, this ground-breaking technology uses cryolipolysis to freeze unwanted fat cells. The procedure takes about one hour, does not require any anesthesia, and can be completed right in our San Diego facility.  Many curious about this procedure have found that the average cost of CoolSculpting is considerably less than other more invasive options.

YOUR TREATMENT DAY: NO SURGERY. WITH LITTLE TO NO DOWNTIME.

During your treatment, a gel pad and applicator will be applied to the targeted area. The CoolSculpting® applicator delivers controlled cooling to the targeted fat. During your procedure, feel free to read, check email, or even take a nap. Most procedures can be completed within a couple hours or less, and since there’s no anesthesia involved, you can drive yourself home safely. Many clients experience little to no pain during their CoolSculpting treatment, and many report that any pain or sensitivity goes away with numbing from the cold.

COOLSCULPTING® FREEZES & ELIMINATES STUBBORN FAT.

The CoolSculpting® procedure safely delivers precisely-controlled cooling to gently and effectively target the fat cells underneath the skin. Treated fat cells are crystallized (frozen), then die. Over time, your body naturally processes the fat and eliminates these dead cells, leaving a more sculpted you if your specialized CoolSculpting plan is followed.

Meet Our San Diego Team

The CoolSculpting team at our San Diego facility is caring and detail-oriented. We work with each patient to analyze their current size and weight, discuss their weight loss goals and plan a customized CoolSculpting approach. After completing a free consultation, our team will determine if you are a good candidate for CoolSculpting, and provide an overview of what to expect before, during, and after your procedure. There is minimal prep and aftercare, and many sessions can be completed in less than a few hours. During this time, our San Diego technicians will use an FDA-approved technique to reduce the temperature of fat cells in your problem areas. You can read, nap, or listen to music during the process. The science is based on a process called, “cryolipolysis”, which freezes the fat cells, causing them to die off and leave the body roughly 4 to 6 months after treatment. This procedure may be suitable for both men and women and requires no downtime. Some patients have lost up to 20 percent of the fat in areas treated, helping them reach their weight goals in a safe and non-invasive manner. We find that CoolSculpting may be particularly effective in combination with positive changes to diet and moderate exercise.

Healing Time

The healing time for CoolSculpting varies from client to client. In general, most clients feel minimal discomfort following the procedure, with some clients reporting a similar soreness to a hard workout. A few weeks after your CoolSculpting procedure, the body will start shedding dead fat cells through a natural process. Factors like the size and number of areas treated, your age, and aftercare techniques can all influence the time needed to heal and shed the fat cells. Our dedicated San Diego staff members are available to answer questions as needed and make sure that you’re comfortable throughout the process. We encourage patients to reach out at any point in time if anything feels uncomfortable or painful. Your health and safety are our priority.

FAQs

Does CoolSculpting have any side effects?

Because CoolSculpting is a non-invasive approach to weight loss, it can have less side effects than other procedures. CoolSculpting does not require any downtime, incisions, or long term medications, which all help to reduce the chance of negative side effects. Typically, the most common side effects may include slight soreness after the procedure and a loss of sensitivity in the treated area. Other side effects may include swelling, bruising, sensitivity, redness, or localized pain. Contact our office for more detailed information or to ask questions about potential side effects.

How are CoolSculpting and liposuction different?

Liposuction involves a plastic surgeon creating an incision in the skin. The doctor then inserts a tube through this incision and suctions out fat. Liposuction requires some form of anesthesia and downtime. CoolSclupting does not require an incision and instead uses cooling techniques to freeze away fat cells. There is a shorter recovery time and little to no downtime.

How much fat can I lose with CoolSculpting?

Results will vary with each client, however, both men and women can see positive results. Recent studies have seen patients lose between 10 and 25 percent of the fat in areas treated. As with any procedure, individual results may vary and also rely on factors like diet, exercise, genetics, age, and after care.

How long does the procedure take?

In general, the procedure itself can take about one hour. Since no anesthesia is required, patients can drive themselves home after their appointment.

Is CoolSculpting a safe option?

CoolSculpting has been approved by the FDA. It has been researched by the Aesthetic Surgery Journal and the US National Institute of Health. It is practiced in several cities around the United States with consistent and positive results.

What are the costs?

During your free consultation, you’ll get a better sense of the exact costs of the treatment. Unfortunately, most insurance providers cannot cover the costs of CoolSculpting. Luckily, it is a less expensive option than other surgical weight loss methods. Prices vary from patient to patient, however the procedure can be under $1000 in some cases. Check our site frequently for offers and financing options.

Does CoolSculpting hurt?

Many people worry that CoolSculpting will be painful. The good news is that a number of studies have shown that many clients feel little to no pain during the treatment and those who do feel pain report that the sensation may diminish as the numbing sets in. After the procedure, some patients may report a slight soreness, similar to the way they feel after a workout.

What regions of the body can be treated with CoolSculpting?

The stomach, thighs, arms, buttocks, legs, hips, and chin are all suitable for CoolSculpting. During your consultation, our team can help pinpoint which regions are appropriate for CoolScultping, and what level of results may be possible.

Can the procedure be repeated?

CoolSculpting can be repeated in the same area, but you’ll need to plan for time in between sessions. The time can vary for several weeks to a few months- your San Diego CoolSculpting team can provide guidance on what’s appropriate for you.

Is there anyone who should avoid CoolSculpting?

We generally do not recommend CoolSculpting for anyone who is pregnant, nursing, suffers from cold-sensitive disorders, impaired circulation, open wounds, neuropathic disorders, blood disorders, eczema, dermatitis, or hernias. We also need to know if our patients have any implants (like a pacemaker) before determining if the procedure is right for them. We take great care to ensure that we offer this treatment only when medically appropriate. If you do have questions, we recommend consulting with your general practitioner for additional guidance.
